Graco My Ride 65 Convertible car seat for newborn?
Question by bzone: Graco My Ride 65 Convertible car seat for newborn?
My car will be equipped with an infant seat that comes with the travel system stroller. My husband wanted a car seat for his car, not just a second base, so he went out and bought a convertible car seat. It’s the Graco My Ride 65 Convertible Car Seat. The weight is 5-40 lbs rear facing. He means to use this for our daughter when she is born in May. Is this seat safe for a newborn?
I’ve always thought you should start with an infant seat and then move to the convertible seat which is why I ask.

Absolutely! Most people use the infant seats first just because of how much easier they are to get in and out of the car.
On side note: We just moved my daughter from her infant seat to the MyRide (rear facing her until 40lbs) and we LOVE this seat.

I really love convertible car seats. When my daughter was an infant, we had an infant seat for my vehicle and a convertible seat for my husband’s vehicle. The infant seats are nice because you can take the seat out to bring into the house when the baby is sleeping.
The Graco MyRide 65 is a really good seat. You will be able to rear face until at least 2 years of age and then you can safely forward face because the limits for the 5 point harness is higher. My almost 2 year old son is still rear facing.
ETA: As long as you are properly using the car seat, and it is installed correctly, it doesn’t really matter what type of seat you use. Make sure you have a certified car seat tech inspect it to be sure. Call your local police department or fire department and they usually have someone who can help you out.
Actually he picked a really good one. —It is one of the safest convertible car seats. So long as you are using it correctly and don’t turn it around until she is old enough and meets the weight requirements. That is the kind we bought after my daughter was too big for her infant seat. We had the travel system and they are safe as well, it is just easier to have the handle for carrying etc.
